Powerful and Reliable All Season Stove
5 Stars
Powerful and Reliable All Season Stove
This is one of the best compact light all season isobutane stoves on the market. It is sturdy, very well built and has been very reliable. I’ve been abusing this stove over the past 4 months cooking real gourmet meals in temperatures from 75 degrees all the way down to 34.With only 3 legs, pots or pans that have a long protruding handle will be imbalanced when placed on top when empty. So make sure you have food or liquid in the pot/pan to help weigh it down before placing it on.Inversion mode works great and does help keep the flame consistent and hot. I did find this very useful when cooking at 34 degrees. The stove maintained its temperature. Not any fault of the stove, I did have issues with the cheap Coleman isobutane cans. You have to screw them on extra tight so that the threads are deep enough to puncture the valve and release the fuel.Overall, love this stove and find myself using this more than my pocket rocket stove. Hoping to get long life and usage out of this stove.

1.0 out of 5 stars Two stoves, BOTH total fails.
Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2021
I was excited about the Optimus Vega as a replacement to my MSR Whisperlite. I did plenty of research before going with the OV.
First stove failed to light. I tried multiple canisters, to no avail. I tested the canisters on other devices and they worked fine. I tried again and again, trying to troubleshoot problems. Nothing.
Amazon offered to send a replacement and I accepted, hoping I had a one time fluke stove.
The replacement stove arrived promptly. Right out of the box, the first canister I screwed on actually hissed out gas all over my hand. I made sure the threads were correctly aligned and attempted to attach multiple canisters. Again, nothing.
I made sure both stoves had the o ring. I made sure all canisters worked when connected to other devices.
Bottom line is both stoves are complete fails, right out of the box. Now, I have to risk Covid by going to a UPS store to return these units. So, buyers beware when considering the Optimus Vega. For that price point, there are very reliable stoves that will not leave you in the lurch, cold and hungry, out in the woods.
