In 1971, a mix of unemployed Boeing engineers, a leaky foam gardening pad, and the dream of better nights under the stars came together to change how we experience the outdoors forever.
By 1972, Cascade Designs was formed and began selling the Therm-a-Rest Standard 3/4 – the world’s first self-inflating sleeping pad.
The rest, as they say, is history.

Therm-a-Rest
Why focus on comfort? It's the simple belief that the better you rest, the better you play. It's a universal truth that is readily apparent in our daily lives, but one that is too often overlooked at play. From the essential, life-preserving warmth that we've provided to some of the world's most significant expeditions, to a simple seat that turns a rocky outcrop into the most amazing lunch stop you've ever dreamed of, the right dose of comfort makes everything better by allowing you to be at your best.

Product Description
When it comes to ultralight sleeping pads, the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XTherm Ultralight Backpacking Air Mattress offers the most warmth-per-ounce for backcountry pursuits. Trusted by mountaineers worldwide, the XTherm delivers lightweight packability, boasting a 6.9 R-value for year-round warmth (R-value measures the material’s ability to insulate; the higher the R-value, the warmer the sleeping pad). Proprietary reflective ThermaCapture technology traps radiant heat within the pad, while the Triangular Core Matrix minimizes heat loss during sleep. Baffled internal structure provides support and comfort in a 2.5-inch inflated mattress, for a restful night in the backcountry. The two layers of triangle baffles create hundreds of individual cells to retain warmth and protect from the cold. Available in two styles: Equipped with the Standard Valve, or equipped with the WingLock Valve which is able to inflate a pad three times faster than a standard valve thanks to a larger barrel and optional one-way inflation. Standard Valve models include stuff sack and repair kit for fixing punctures, and WingLock Valve models include a pump sack (for easier, breath-free pad inflation), a stuff sack and a repair kit. Made in the USA. Manufacturer’s limited lifetime warranty.

I use this in conjunction with a military-style modular sleep system. It fits perfectly in my bivvy and is a great addition to the sleep system.
One word of advice with its size: I'm 5'10" and 170 lbs and this sleeping pad is exactly my size. If you're taller or bigger, you may want to opt for a larger pad.
The temperature were down into the teens overnight with snow on the ground but it was so warm with it inside my sleeping bag that I slept in my skivvies comfortably.
It was so comfortable that I would have a hard time getting up in the morning to make food and go hiking.
Well worth the money if you intend to camp in below freezing weather.
I put my sleeping pads inside my sleeping bag when the weather is cold because it makes a huge difference in how warm you will be. With the temperature going down to the upper teens I chose to sleep in light weight thermals , no jacket , and standard weight sox. My bag is a military surplus rated to 40 degrees, and I coverd that with a snugpak jungle blanket. I literally broke a sweat. I was very snug. This sleeping pad is the warmest I have used and super light. My search for my pad is over and it has earned a permanent position in my pack.
It is worth the money if you are a hard core camper or just incest on having the best gear you can get. I use my gear hard and have to depend on it. Thermorest has a good reputation for durable gear so you won't have to worry about the pad deflating on you causing a bad situation on a cold night. It is well worth the price and I would buy it again.
